The thing they don’t tell you about grief is that you don’t only feel it when someone dies. It’s when anything dies; a dream, expectation, relationship, job, your place on a team. The list could go on. Obviously, the levels of grief are different, which means the intensity and duration of your feelings will be different. Another interesting thing that they don’t tell you is that your emotions only reflect YOUR past emotions, not anybody else’s. So if you loved your dream and had high hopes for it but no one else in your life did, you are alone in your grief. If you loved your ex intensely, then your grief will be intense, but theirs may not be…..I’m not trying to hurt your feelings:)

So just know that grief is felt for many things, not just people. Also be kind to yourself if you’re grieving. These things take time to do, but have to be done.
